While hiking up the hill; be cautious of sharp plants as well as rocks. The journey up there is amazing and beautiful.

It would definitely be worth your time, energy and strength to reach the peck of the hill. Well, Student Aliens did not reach the peak yet; due to time constraint.

Speedwell began life as a lead mine in1700’s but closed after two decades due to the limited amount of lead it produced.

The Bottomless Pit is an extremely deep vertical shaft, now choked to within 35 metres of the surface by rock spoil dumped by Castleton miners. The original depth of the shaft has been estimated, from the amount of spoil placed in the shaft over the years, at around 150m.

Peveril Castle abandoned yet visited

Written, shot and edited by Fabian

The 15th century progress, Peveril Castle became less important as administrative functions were moved elsewhere.

Peveril_Castle_from_Castleton
A survey in 1561 conducted for the Duchy revealed that Peveril Castle was in a state of decay, and as a result along with Donnington was one of two castles that were subsequently abandoned.

With the advent of the railways in the 19th century, the area became a tourist attraction. The Duchy of Lancaster undertook maintenance in the 19th century to ensure the castle’s condition did not deteriorate further.
Peveril Castle is roughly triangular in shape, about 90 by 65 m (300 by 213 ft), sitting on top of a hill overlooking the Hope Valley.

Adam Kadabra’s unique guitar fingering style attracts Tramlines crowds

Written and edited by Fabian/ Shot by Michelle

A person from Scotland amazed the Tramlines crowd with his unique guitar fingering style and beautiful music pieces.

Adam Kadabra’s fingering style was developed by the inspiration of Erik Mongrain. Adam could not play the guitar normally due to an accident.

cropped-dsc_80021

“I played normally for 4 years. But an accident happened during my school years when a dancer kicked my hand. As a result, I broke a finger on my left hand.”
For 6 months, he was not heartbroken but through the inspiration of Erik Mongrain, he began growing a conditional love for playing music. However, the environment prevented his growth.

“As I was living with my sister and brother in law for a while, I had no time to practice because my brother in law sleeps during the day and works at night.”

Therefore, busking in the street with the aim to have alone time to practice, he accidentally drew the crowd and got great feedback. He did it again at Tramlines Festival.

He says, “My advice is one that I love saying to people:
“Beethoven was deaf and Ray Charles was blind. You have the same hours as them. They don’t have the same things as you.”

This is his first album that he has just released, “That guy on Buchanan street.”

Rio Ferdinand Testimonial ended with a 3-1 defeat to Sevilla

Written, shot and edit by Fabian

Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial and final appearance ended with a terrible 3-1 loss to Sevilla.

The appearance of Rio Ferdinand brought huge cheers from the crowd. The whole stadium was filled with a sea of red.

Rio Ferdinand’s final words before leaving the club started after the end of the friendly match.

The match started with Manchester controlling the game. However, the opening goal was scored by Sevilla through Vitolo. Manchester’s team began increasing their attacking force which had several opening chances.

Unfortunately, Sevilla struck again through Marko Marin which took Sevilla 2-0 till the end of the first half.

David Moyes made several changes which increased the attacking force and possession of Manchester United. It paid off through Antonio Valencia pulling off one goal which brought more cheers and hope to the crowd.

The bringing in of Giggs changed the entire game play hence forcing Sevilla to be in defensive play. However, substitution of Rio Ferdinand in the closing minutes hit hard on the team’s defense.

Sevilla struck the final goal through Bryan Rabello that damped the spirit of Manchester.

This is what a Manchester fan has to say about the match.

Alpaca Mayfield Farm; a hobby that turned into a pioneering enterprise in Sheffield

Written by Fabian/ Video and Pics shot by Melissa, Michelle, Yoon Yi and Fabian/ Edited by Fabian

Elaine bought her first alpaca in 1997 after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Mayfield Alpaca was set up in 2001 after Elaine and Nigel re-mortgaged their house to pay for the 42-acre farmland at Ringinglow with four alpacas as their business venture.

“When I first bought that patch of land in 2001, never in a million years did I think we would be welcoming visitors through the door every day. I can honestly say that if I had never gotten cancer, I wouldn’t be doing what I am now.”

Pioneering farming enterprise in Sheffield; they have won a national business award from Junior Chamber International and is now the UK’s hope in the international competition.

Elaine said: “I almost dropped to the floor when I heard the news.”

Presently, the national herd numbers is in between 6,000 to 10,000. However; it is estimated that it needs to increase tenfold before the UK could begin to develop a sustainable fleece industry like those in South America, Australia and New Zealand.

However, Elaine believes there is a niche market for garments made from the fleeces of the Mayfield Valley herd.

She said: “I’ve always wanted to process my own fleece, taking it from the raw state and making it into garments.”

“I’ve always said you only get one chance at life – there is no dress rehearsal – so you can’t let a little thing like cancer get in your way.”

‘Grannies’ on trolleys and ballroom couple capture Tramlines crowd

Written and Video shot by Michelle/ Video, Audio and Interview edited by Fabian

Six ‘grannies’ went around Sheffield City Centre on shopping trolleys blasting music while two ballroom dancers mingled with the crowd doing exaggerated, quirky acts during Tramlines.

The ‘grannies’ were actually 5 men and 1 woman dressed up as grannies, which was what attracted the crowd initially as they made their appearance.

These performers are part of Yellow Bus Events, who joined in Tramlines with their Festival of Street Entertainment and parked their iconic Yellow Bus in front of City Hall during the 3-day event.

Many people crowded in around the grannies performance at City Hall, and when the ‘grannies’ went around the City Centre, many people stopped, laughing and taking pictures of them. They were certainly a head-turner.

Many people flocked to City Hall to watch other performances such as magic, illusions, dangerous stunts and many more.

Yellow Bus Events Ltd  is an events company working to organize annual events such as Christmas events, urban beaches and firework spectaculars.

Yellow Bus’s upcoming events include Fright Night  and Fright Nights Little Brother  which will be held in mid-October, just in time for Halloween.

Hi guys, the latest update. Our crew members Yoon Yi and Xinyi went for the TriSlacking.
image

We managed to participate in this activity. Thank goodness! Ropes or slackling is about balancing on a flat rope between two anchor points. The rope is stretchy and bouncy. Yoon Yi had a hard time balancing on the rope and kept stepping on her own toes during the process… Xinyi is pretty steady and much balanced. compared to Yoon Yi.

Hey guys, Yoon Yi here.

image

I’ve just finish experiencing diving in a pool not long ago. One of the activities was a 15-minute free diving session. Yes you’ve got that right, it’s absolutely FREE! It’s a free diving test session offered by Diveworld. The lesson was conducted on the spot by the on duty diving instructor. Other than free lessons,we could also use equipments ranging from diving suits to oxygen tanks.

image

The suit was very tight and it was meant to protect and keep my body warm. I had difficulties adjusting my goggles. I have forgotten that the goggles includes covering my nose and I accidentally breath in through my nose without the goggles covering my nose . Instantly pain and headache attacked me! However I managed to overcome it and at the end of the day everything was under control.

image

The pool wasn’t that big but it’s big enough for new beginners like me! My instructor of the day,Matt, patiently filled me in with the necessary knowledge and skills…and guess what? It’s actually pretty easy to learn. And it’s fun to do so!

The only thing that’s bordering me was the hygiene and cleanliness of the pool and equipments because so many people have used them…and the water was brown!

12:15

Our most beautiful and fairest of them all member, Yoon Yi, has just tried out the free scuba diving test session offered by Diveworld. They offer different diving classes and equipments and today at Cliffhanger they are offering a 15-minute free diving session with complementary equipments from diving suits to oxygen supllies. Join us for a video review from the just-came-off-the-pool mermaid, about her experience!
